In Praise of the Bathtub

Finally, after nearly 5 months in this house, tonight I got around to trying out the bathtub---baptizing it, if you will. It took a long, lazy snow day. I filled it up good, put pijeanf's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day CD on shuffle with the Michelle Shocked/Fianchna O'Braonain's Artists Make Lousy Slaves, and got on in.

It's easy to see how religious experiences can be associated with being immersed, covered over in soft, thick water, head poking up & waterfalls running down the hair: the smell, the feel, the taste.

Lovely. I sorely miss having a bathtub big enough to soak in.

I once knew of a small waterfall in Vermont, where just two people could sit behind it.

Because of Vermont winters, it might not still exist. It was a large, flat slab of rock that jutted upwards at an angle from a streambed. Subsequent freezing and thawing may have moved it.

I could probably find the town its near, but I couldn't find the waterfall on a Vermont Atlas. I don't know the name of the road it was near. I'm not sure I could even find it if I was driving that direction. It's been about 10 years since I visited.

Alas. I'm such a waterfall freak. When I lived in Vermont, I knew lots of locations.

The waterfall is always an element in my vision of an ideal spot in the out-of-doors.

Sounds nice. I haven't taken a tub in forever. Must amend that.
