Holy Crap, that is outrageous!

I am disgusted not only by the blatant fat-phobia but also the fact that many kids who ARE being abused do not get help from "the system" which claims there are too many children being abused to save them all. Yet they waste thier time on this utter bullshit.

And, how terrible for the parents...

Horrible. I remember this when it first came out. Funny how the media isn't anywhere when the fatphobes have their case dismissed. Good write up by Campo.

As the mother of a child whose grandparents are horrified that he might not be thin, I find this article very frightening. I'm sure my parents would have no problem putting my 5-year-old son on a 500-calorie-a-day diet if they thought it might keep him from getting fat.

Of course they raised me, a formerly bulimic fat woman. I don't think they really had a problem with my bulimia--they were just happy that I was thin for a while.

Sometimes I think you're/we're lucky you didn't develop anorexia---and considering the aspect you hear about family dynamics and taking control, it seems as if it might have gotten you. But am I right that it's harder for people to beat?

brief blogging before bed here, so i haven't digested this yet, but campos is quoted in this article in the Post today:

hmm....seems that the measures we should use to determine someone's health should be blood pressure, cardiovascular health/pulse, etc., not size.
