As the mother of a child whose grandparents are horrified that he might not be thin, I find this article very frightening. I'm sure my parents would have no problem putting my 5-year-old son on a 500-calorie-a-day diet if they thought it might keep him from getting fat.

Of course they raised me, a formerly bulimic fat woman. I don't think they really had a problem with my bulimia--they were just happy that I was thin for a while.

Sometimes I think you're/we're lucky you didn't develop anorexia---and considering the aspect you hear about family dynamics and taking control, it seems as if it might have gotten you. But am I right that it's harder for people to beat?

hmm....seems that the measures we should use to determine someone's health should be blood pressure, cardiovascular health/pulse, etc., not size.
