It was going to require 30 hrs/week, but it was going to pay quite well for those hours:

Dear applicants,
The tests have been checked. Those receiving this message scored 82% or
better. At this time we are waiting for the pages to come back from
keyboarding. You will be contacted as the projects become ready. Please
contact me if you have any questions.

Dear Proofreaders,
I have spoken to some of you by phone, and have corresponded with a few of you by e-mail.
The reason for my delayed response to you with a project update is we received unfortunate news mid-last week causing us to put the project on hold for the time being.
It is possible that we may move forward with the project, but we will not know until the end of July.

If the project will go forward, it will again take us time to prepare the pages for reading, meaning that realistically no work would be available before late August. (The pages are keyboarded, and we will be receiving files this week, but not proceeding further at this time).
I sincerely appreciate your interest in working with us, and would like to know if you wish to be considered going forward. I would appreciate a reply either way. [snip]

Dear Proofreaders,
It is with disappointment that I let you know that we are not going forward with our project at this time, and will not require your services. We appreciate your efforts and interest in working with us. If we find the situation changes we will be in touch. We will also keep your information on file in case we should have different work that may require your assistance.

Sincere regards,
Xxxx Xxxxxxxxx

This discussion over in [livejournal.com profile] pijeanf's blog is reminding me of an old idea from British Labour politics, told to me by [livejournal.com profile] homovegetarian and apparently attributable to a Richard Neville: there's only an inch between the Tories/Conservatives and the Labor Party, but it's in that inch we live. It's referred to, among other places, in this interview with John Lennon from 1971.

There's a little on Richard Neville at this amazon listing for his book Hippie Hippie Shake.
