pijeanf's blog is reminding me of an old idea from British Labour politics, told to me by homovegetarian and apparently attributable to a Richard Neville: there's only an inch between the Tories/Conservatives and the Labor Party, but it's in that inch we live. It's referred to, among other places, in this interview with John Lennon from 1971.
There's a little on Richard Neville at this amazon listing for his book Hippie Hippie Shake.
