It tickles me.  I have a special kind of admiration for their moot-ish adventure and its singular experimental gumption.

I confess I wasn't sure what the heck you were talking about until I googled it. I remember that they were doing this sort of thing back in the 60's too. I confess that this sort of experiment always strikes me as a sort of playing-in-the-sandbox-because-nobody's-willing-to-pay-for-the-real-thing sort of thing. I guess it really is taking care of one nagging little corner of doubt if anyone ever decides to do it for real, though.

Mostly it reminds me that the idea of a mission to Mars has been on-again-off-again since Spiro Agnew made a big speech promising a Mars mission back circa 1970.
