One of the bowling lesbians on my team asked me in the parking lot after the game whether I pray. Muscles all over me tightened slightly. I indicated that I don't, to speak of. A little stronger than that, but not flat-out "I'm an atheist who generally prefers not to be involved in conversations about God with Christian believers, in case you're thinking of going there." Whatever I said, it didn't stop her from sharing about her art, and how it's good only when it's for Him, not her. She also said it scares her, the art, or something about it. Shit, me too, thought I.

She wants me to email her so she can send me images of some of her works (depicting lighthouses, for instance). I don't think I'm going to. I sure hope I'm not going to.

Help me out here. Friends don't let friends email Christian bowling team members who want to send Him-related art, even if the friends who would be emailing are going to have to see the Christian bowling team members again in a coupla weeks.

Yiikes. That kind of thing always makes me so uncomfortable, even if I'm fine with telling the person I'm pagan and prefer not to discuss it. I will never understand why people think it's socially acceptable to bring up something so personal in the first place.

Maybe you could trade some art? I know a guy who used to make up his own fliers to hand back to Christians who gave him literature. Atheism articles or gay event calendars, stuff like that.

that's not a bad idea. or tell her my art is only good when it's for the Devil, not me?

Ha!

Of course, as an Atheist you are not likely to believe in the Devil. ;-]

I would definitely forget to email her. Yes. "Forget".

Or if you go with [livejournal.com profile] wednes's suggestion, I'd pick something even less reverent... your art is only any good when it's for half-pairs of shoes abandoned on the highway. It's only any good when you are contemplating pancakes. All of your worthwhile art has revolved around bathtubs. Your art is only any good when it evokes way blue smells on sunny days.

I believe that a memory lapse would be of great utility at this point.

don't do it! do not email her! yes, you will see her again, and because you are decent you will be polite and decent. that is more than enough, more than good, and perfectly acceptable.

i think that faking "friendliness" is one thing at a social event, and is i think the right thing to do. if you expand the relationship into a personal one based on a lie, well, that is kind of crappy and since your basic questions seems to be, "how to be decent", the answer seems clear.

plus wednes and deranging are right, she is being indecent both in over-exposing the intimate (without being sensitive to your intimacies) and doing so with force. you don't want to lie to get closer to that!!

dude!

I kinda think "I'm an atheist who generally prefers not to be involved in conversations about God with Christian believers, in case you're thinking of going there" would have been apropos.
