"Comes a time."  -- Neil Young

There comes a time in every life when a person really needs to be taken aside and told, by someone who loves her, that she's really got to get something through her head. Something that she knows, but just isn't acting on. Maybe even something she's been telling herself for practically forever. And sometimes there's really no one to tell her but her herself.

That's why, Lisa, I really want you to think about these two words I'm about to say to you. I want you to hear them, to take them in, and to do something about them at your first available opportunity. So you really need to listen now, Lisa. When you hear them, you're going to know what I mean, and you're going to know I'm right; please don't resist. Okay. Do I have your attention? Lisa? Alright. Here they come. I'll split 'em up to make it easier for you to absorb each fully. First word: bird. Second word: seed.

The two words together, to recap: bird seed.

Like the song says, comes a time.

and if this is truely about bird seed, my father has found the perfect mix of birdseed to be something along the lines of a 20 lb bag of sunflower seeds, a 5 lb bag of safflower seed, and a 20 or 40 (can't remember) lb bag of premium mixed wild bird seed. The sunflower and safflower seeds are more of what the birds want...the mixed seed stuff is so much millet that it just ends up all over the ground and has you returning to the store far too often. He fills something like 6 various feeders a day, but has a forest of birds visit him each day.

it is indeed about actual bird seed, D. :) and thanks much for the tip.

the one thing i've decided for myself is not to get any bags that have something like "cherry flavoring" --which makes it smell, presumably for humans who'll think this is swanky, as i didn't see it making any diff to the birds. but that smelly stuff was what lured the squirrels to dare the acrobatics to get to my feeder. and since i went back to seed that doesn't have that stuff, the squirrels have relented.

is your dad in illinois somewhere?

He used to be just west of peoria, IL, but now they're in Barnett, MO at the north end of the Lake of the Ozarks.

Oh..he mixes the food into one of those 25 gallon rubbermaid bins, too, and it keeps the food fresh.
