my kitty bit me. pretty good.

they were quick at the e.r., though. (you haveta go cuzza virulent cat spit.) they have complimentary valet parking at the e.r. it was weird to be getting valet parked like that.

today was a lousy day for my hand and for my finances. and sort of in other ways too, and sort of not. trying not to get down about the email i just sent. on the Spike Lee Scale (of Doing the Right Thing) it was up there, i think.

was it [livejournal.com profile] derangingsusana who pointed us to that study of how we (people) hate to close doors, when doors represent options, even when it's fairly obviously not in our interest? some clicky quiz in a NY Times article about the psychology, i think from that book Predictably Irrational, or w/e it's called? i got in line for that one with the library.

okay, next i'm gonna post the poem i was gonna post before things kinda got away from me today. then a take-it-easy night, and tomorrow will come tomorrow.

thanks, S. it wasn't the humphster's fault, really, the bite. the vet was squeezing hard on his impacted anal gland at the time, y'see, ....

you know what i keep forgetting to ask you: will you tell me about your user name here, "derangingsusana"?

cool. i just arranged for the library to lend me the novel (in translation).

the hand was what prompted the fuckin' hurts, yes, though as i repeated the words they came to be about other pain as well. aching not just physical. you can imagine, i'm sure.

today, though, the hand is a bit better---hurts less, less swollen. i like to think i've turned the corner on it. but it'll be a while before i do any thumb wrestling, scissor operating, or certain other especially gripping activities. or dribbling a basketball or high-fiving with that hand. or slapping men like women do in old movies. talk about hardship!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the hand. Hope kitty is in a better mood.

It was Predictably Irrational

It was Predictably Irrational, and the study showed that people keep on investing in keeping options (doors) open even if this is not the rational thing to do, and even if it costs them.

Best

Are you Dan as in Dan G., Ph.D., of the Florida Keys, who's sorta related to me (by marriages and step-niece/neph grandchildren type things)?

I had to go to the ER for a cat bite once. I felt like a real wuss, sitting there with my two little puncture wounds, competing for care & attention with people in car wrecks or suffering heart attacks and broken limbs. But they told me I was the 4th cat bite that weekend!

Ow. Poor Lisa. Hope the pain fades soon. Any pain killers come with that stitching up? Cats can be a bitch to vet. I've been accidentally bitten by Rufus. I was walking him and he grabbed something gross and started to eat it-- it was too dark out for me to tell what it was, but being the fearless, dedicated mom that I am, I reached in his mouth to grab it out--mid-chew, as it turned out. For a minute it hurt so much I felt light-headed, but no blood or anything. Sounds like yours was a lot worse. Glad you got treatment.

I'm curious about your e-mail. Hmmm. I haven't receieved any from you lately.

i know you were recently at the site of what was, according to the billboard west of town on Rte. 50, America's Most Beautiful Shopping Center (<-- check it, it has a Wikipedia article!) (how they can fail to mention the Orange Julius, i cannot understand) (or the mall cinema workers getting stoned) (or how much business Hickory Farms lost giving out samples to that guy you had the inexplicable thing for) (and me) (but it was always his idea) (cuz it was free) (hahahaaa).

other than that, i don't know what's up with you either.

Jeez. I hadn't looked at e mail in days, so I just saw this reply. I'd already sent you a reply to your e mail about America's Most Beautiful Shopping Center. I forgot to include in my Mall memories one of my favorites--that time you and BP dressed up like "nerds" and came by to pick me up to go to the Mall for the purpose of formulating a guess in the how-many-jelly-beans-are-in-the-sports-car contest. I believe you put tape on your glasses, and BP pulled his pants up so they were high on his waist and too short. One of you had a calculator on your belt, and the other had a slide rule. I think you may have worn pocket protectors. I went along as what you called your "cool friend." We did the car thing, and then went into Hess (as you may recall, it was one of the stores where lots of the really "cool" girls shopped), where I purchased a blouse that you and BP really liked. Man, those were carefree times, in retrospect.
