Dec. 9th, 2007 05:42 pmmay get my butt out of the house in a little bit. may not. we shall see.
youssou n'dour last night was really good. transporting, even. eventually even most of the mezzanine was dancing. so glad
shmizla (pretty much) drug me there.
earlier in the day she'd seen a bumpersticker:
IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER
IF YOU CAN READ THIS IN ENGLISH, THANK A VETERAN
or was it "A SOLDIER"? either way, an accomplishment in pithy ign'ance. simultaneously stupid on multiple levels.
later i came up with this (variation on a theme) idea for a bumpersticker:
FREE YOUR ASS AND
YOUR MIND WILL FOLLOW
or is it more an idea for a religion?
i wonder whether "lord love a duck" comes from a particular concept in theology.

Date: Dec. 10th, 2007 01:33 am (UTC)A South African friend of my German ex-roommate's best friend living in Italy introduced me to him when I was staying in Rome. It was a funny situation, the three of us together under international pretenses. The three of us didn't share a common language, so when all together we had to translate for each other. What resulted was an unruly amalgamation of three languages (Me: English and German, my ex-roommate's best friend: German and Italian, and the South African: English and Italian).
Anyhow, she introduced me to the Youssou N'Dour's album with Birima on it. I still listen to it, though I've never heard any of his other music, nor was I aware he toured in the states. It's nice to know there are other people with such eclectic tastes out there.
