So, yes, I bought myself a flashlight.
Nov. 12th, 2007 10:12 pmThis is my new flashlight: ![[pic of flashlight]](https://p2.dreamwidth.org/780331f5ce25/717209-396119/di1.shopping.com/images/di/5a/62/66/49376534414248692d64464344324249524967-100x100-0-0.jpg)
Tonight I was thinking I might buy me a blanket. I've never bought myself a blanket. I've bought a lousy comforter, and gone in on a good one, but never a blanket. And I like blankets. I have several that are cast-off, hand-me-down, gifted or inherited, and one that was pilfered. "pilphered"? Wasn't me what swiped it, anyroad.
I was thinking I might buy me a blanket that I pick out for myself.
What else shall I think of buying me? And why? And so what?
I hate that mockingbird song. Always have. If you know the one I mean. It's supposed to be a lullaby, but even though it has a structural thing a child might tend to like, it sucks. I don't mind the grammar at all, but it's sing-songy in an annoying way, and the stuff mamma's gonna buy you & what goes wrong with it---that stuff's stupid. And the whole idea of it, that's the worst part. Not cuz it's capitalist, but cuz it's a lie.
I shall now say something cheerier so as not to end on that note.

Date: Nov. 13th, 2007 06:24 pm (UTC)there are also these synthetic fibers now, and they are in blankets, and the blankets are in lovely colors sometimes. but somehow i can't cathect to those as well. must be the "hardwiring" (installed by my natural-fiber-fanatic mother).

Date: Nov. 13th, 2007 06:30 pm (UTC)my mother felt clothes as she went by. she bent shoes, too. she was a tactile shopper, fer sure. didn't draw the natural fiber line for me, though, and, as i think i mentioned once, didn't like linen cuz with it she always felt the (ahem) pressing need to iron. guess she had too much ironing in her life already.
it goes without saying that i'm less scrupulous regarding wrinkles.

Date: Nov. 13th, 2007 06:39 pm (UTC)that whole generation of ironers--lost on me. i think my mother was about the lasting nature of natural fibers as well as their "health." i seem to feel that logic as correct myself, although i have ventured into some synthetic items. but rarely close to where sensitive skin is.
Blanket curse!
Date: Nov. 13th, 2007 10:52 pm (UTC)Then my second girlfriend gave me an electric blanket for Xmas and we finally, finally ended our relationship shortly after that. Don't have that one. I tried to wash it and ruined it.
I told M NEVER to buy me a blanket of any kind as a present. (I'm sure she doesn't remember.) We've bought several comforters and quilts together and I bought a blanket myself since then. She's not the blanket buying type, so I think we're safe.
