They're playing food songs on WEMU. Which I gather is a tradition.

HFS and then RNR used to get "Alice's Restaurant" in some time, seemingly always right around when I'd be in the process of losing the signal, driving down the Sho'.

Soon I'll be making the 16-20 servings of the second kind of mashed potatoes I'll contribute to today's meal. The first (make-ahead ordinaries) are done. For the others, the garlic is roasted and the balsamic reduction has been reduced/produced.

Redactivist reductivist. Reduct redact redux. Reduction ad absurdum. I sense great potential for fun with the vinegar syrup in today's gathering of academics. At least one or two of 'em.

yep-- I'm cookin' too. Green bean casserole. Chosen for its midwesternness. My mom always makes them, including the crunchy fried onions on top-- many other people must too, given that the Giant near my work gave those onions an endcap spot. Going to a gathering of ~ 18. More about that later.

My mother would make sure we knew we weren't to snack on those onion thingies, as they were very expensive.

Will be interested to hear about your big feast company.

oh yeah. my mother would only have them in the house at thanksgiving or xmas time, and no snacking on them. i am babysitting Harper while his owner is in Tennessee, and he and Birdie are tearing through the house after each other at this moment. When i go to bed, though, they'll quiet down, I hope (they will, or they will be separated). Thanksgiving was fun! Hope yours was too. I'll try to call you this weekend to chat.

It was good to talk to you yesterday, if briefly. Do hope to hear about the big gathering & how that went.

WXRT played "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" during my trip up to Chicago yesterday morning. Definitely a fine thanksgiving traditional. At one point, I used to know that song word for word...now I only can remember about 60% of it. Durn rotting brain...

Had my annual bottle of Georges Du Boeuf Beaujolais-Neauvou (sp?)...Definitely quite dry this year, but not as...acidic as last year.

My boss and I were in her boss's office the other day, sitting on a little two-person couch at the other side of the room from that other boss's big desk, in which that other boss (who is still arranging that office) loomed kinda large over us. While we waited for her to finish a phone call, I made a crack to my boss about our being on the Group W bench. There are phrases from the tale that do come to my mind now and then, but I've never had the entire narrative down.

I don't think any of the wine-bringers at the feast last night brought a Beaujolais nouveau. My palate is unsophisticated, esp. when it comes to wines, but I do tend to like the labels on those Du Boeuf bottles each year.

Ah, yes....The Group W bench...that's where they put you if they're wondering if you're moral enough to join the army. :-) How'd the recruitment go? Haha.

Yeah, the bottle this year is just about the same label as I can recall from last year. Man, nothing can really beat the 2004 Nouveau, though. That was a great year for duboef. Can't wait for villages to get to the 2003-2004 vintage. Should be a good reflection of the nouveau.
