It's Friday.

I'm just posting cuz I haven't in a few days. Don't want to lose the habit entirely, and for some reason it feels as if I might.

Hello.

Looks as if I may need to finish my little outside painting project tonight or tomorrow a.m., as more rain's a-comin'. Gotta figure out what to do before winter with the steps.

I've had kind of a low-level setback in mood this week, seemingly caused as much by being set back in mood as by the triggering incident. I'm so meta-pathetic sometimes it's ridiculous. Either that or (maybe in addition to that?) I'm living in the moment in terms of processing what comes to me emotionally & that's really great, rah rah, sis boom bah.

There's this: I've got somebody to root for in the World Series. Do you?

[identity profile] vjsmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm rooting for the Tigers, although that's just because I ave to root for somebody. I'm not all that excited about it. But I would be if I lived in Michigan!

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, there's a lot to root for with those guys. Fer instance:

(a) They really stunk for years, including very recently (underdog factor).
(b) They're the American League rep.
(c) Pudge!
(d) Magglio's hair!
(e) They play fundamental baseball--- e.g., good fielding & base running.
(f) They're not the home run hitting fascists they used to try to be.

These just off the top of me head.

[identity profile] squirrelykat.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
AND they don't BUY their team like the Stankees [and then
the guys give in to the devil and cut their hair]

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stankees"! Have I told you lately that I love you??

[identity profile] vjsmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm an east sell. I'll root more enthusiastically. I do love that Pudge! And yeah-they are the AL team, and I am an AL kind of girl. (I have no idea what that means; it just kinda came out and I didn't delete it.)

[identity profile] vjsmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not actually an "east sell." I'm and "easy sell."

[identity profile] vjsmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh screw it. I've been proofing all afternoon--I'm just not doing it on my breaks!

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
My attitude exactly!

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an AL kinda gal, too. I think we're more sentimental: keep those old guys with bad knees playing as DH, anyway. I guess the natural grass vs. artificial turf thing doesn't apply do much any more. Maybe we should ask [livejournal.com profile] kohkae about the flavor of the leagues from their history---she just finished watching that Ken Burns baseball documentary.

[identity profile] vjsmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I love old guys with bad knees! Speaking of old guys, did I tell you that it was Rick Dempsey's birthday the night of that game Jeff & I went to? Jeff's Uncle Dave, Granddad, and I got to tell Jeff about the one of the O's from the good ole days. (Of course, since he's the first base coach, he was there to wave at the crowd when we gave him a birthday standing O.)

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's cool. Did they put footage of him on (whatever they call the Camden Yards) Jumbotron? Like my favorite footage---him "running" the bases during a rain delay, sliding on his belly on the tarp? He was my kinda ballplayer, that Dempsey. Or one of my kindsa ballplayer.

p.s.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
My nod to the old Oriole days is, even now that it no longer comes out of my mouth unthinkingly along with the tens of thousands of others standing next to me, to go ahead and yell (or at least say quietly, yet intoning it as if yelling) "O!" at that pivotal moment in the anthem. Which is about the only thing I dig about that song any more.

I've always wondered if, in Atlanta, they end with "and the home/of the/Braves"...

[identity profile] kohkae.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an AL gal also growing up with the Royals (sigh) and all. I'm still in an AL city now with my adopted Rangers. With the exception of the Yankees, A's, and maybe the White Sox, I'm going to root for the AL team in the WS. (Yeah, Tigers!)

Ken Burns said: they introduced the DH in 1973 to help the sagging offensive production. It's all I've ever really known growing up so I'm okay with it.

Does anyone still have artificial turf besides Minnesota?

[identity profile] aabassplayer.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
How bout them Cards, eh?

*ducks and runs*

Sorry...I lived in the Detroit area for 7 years and never really got into the Tigers, but I've been a Cardinals fan for LIFE! :-)

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd sure take the Cards over the Yankees, or a number of other teams. I got a little irritated with 'em during the McGuire days, just cuzza him, though. Plus they're 'cross-state rivals of me Royals, somehow, despite being in opposite leagues.

Maybe we should have a minor bet on the Series. Wanna? Something silly?

[identity profile] aabassplayer.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe...sure...I'll be in town 11/6-11/9...How about a 6 pack of the winner's favorite bottled beverage and some euchre while I'm in town? Guess we'd need another couple folks to get to the euchre thing, though.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like that idea. If Detroit wins I'll have to think hard on what my favorite will be. (Yours isn't some $50/bottle rare ale or anything, I take it?)

I bet we could round us up a pair of Euchrists. Or whatever ya'll call it. I say you're on!

[identity profile] aabassplayer.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe...sounds good...that Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are open so far...Wednesday night is jam night at TC's Speakeasy.

And no...I like the $8 or less 6-packs. Not quite sure myself on what would be preferred that day.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if all goes well, you won't have to decide!

[identity profile] aabassplayer.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha...touche!

[identity profile] squirrelykat.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry for the superfunk, keep strong. don't worry about being
too sensitive - to me it's a sign that you CARE.
cats (tigers) and kittens (dennis and norman) rule.
can i BUY you anything!? HA! [putting that check in the bank]

[identity profile] squirrelykat.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm gonna use the money to take the kittens to the VET for
their first visit, if i ever catch them!

[identity profile] schroederjt.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
For all that the Mets broke my heart a little in the bottom of the ninth yesterday, I am glad I can root free and clear for your Tigers.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I was hopin' it would be the Mets too, kinda, though I like some of those fellas and mighta had more mixed loyalty.

[identity profile] sprig5.livejournal.com 2006-10-22 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
watched part of inning 1 of last night's game on my small, snowy TV as I was taking a break from preparing for a presentation I give next week. Well, actually, I was done for the day. Anyway, saw the Tigers get a run. Then strted watching crazy season 4 of Six Feet Under. I think my prsentation will go OK! I've practice given it three times now and have timed myself. the timing is pretty good, and it seems to get a little smoother each time. I just need to organize some of my supporting hadndouts more now. I haven't given a presenation in a few years now, and am nervous, so i'm going to overprepare so that I can do itin my sleep

anyway, my condolences on the tigers.

oh yeah-- i was always more an "NL" girl myself. Growing up in cincinnati during the Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey (Sr.) years, I was always more familiar with the NL teams. But not a major BB fan, altho it's fun to see a game once in a while.
