i didn't see crash---homovegetarian's pass on it was convincing enough to me to skip it, or at least wait until a dvd. i admit i was glad brokeback didn't get it.
but the catch is that best picture is never the best picture. or virtually never. it's the most academy-popular, and sometimes you'd think the people voting don't have anything to do with movies at all, for what they pick. in that category the nominations themselves tend to leave out the best, and always include some forrest gump crap, which will win in that bizarre way.
it was "palestinian territories," too, after all. poo.
and how 'bout lily tomlin and meryl streep? they were so good i didn't know if they were reading from a teleprompter or ad-libbing or just fucking it up! haha!
my take on that was that they were congratulating themselves at the end for getting through the planned altman-esque (but no doubt tricky) talking over each other schtick. which surely involved ad-lib. their embrace seemed genuine...
crash?
