The exterior:
'Twas a restaurant in the West Village (in NYC). There's a Starbucks there now, as you can see in this long blog post about the building's history (which includes its mention in verse of Frank O'Hara!), and you can see a 600-ft apartment there that rents for $4385/mo. on this page. Looks like it's where the Hay Loft was. It'd make sense, being the second floor front, plus there's maybe that fireplace, with the light coming from the right direction, in one of those apartment pix. Like they built cabinets---a whole kitchen, really---in to the space to the right of it. And added a bizarre chandelier.
