You know, until you came along I thought "Sara" was totally bogus. Or whatever we would have said then. Yes, I was a solid -h Sarah woman before you.

That's right. You told me that, and I forgot it because it was repugnant to me. Actually, 'Sara' seems more solid than 'Sarah' to me. The 'h' 'is excess fluff, like lace, or those leathery feathery things on a 1970's Cher jacket. The 'h' seems anglo-saxon, in the sense of extra letters that don't add anything to sound or sense, whereas 'Sara' seems more streamlined and Latin. (Yeah, I know the name is Hebrew in origin.) The 'h' adds an excessively feminine "ah" to the end, like this poor gal's gonna faint.

Well, what I used to think was that the -a left you hanging, and the -h provided some kind of protection for that exposed vowel, sticking all out there like that. Plus then there was the nice balance around the "r" with the two a's, one on either side, and then one letter on either side of those. Hadn't thought of the "ah" factor, though.

the "h" is like a veil. Or a lacy Victorian curtain, blowing in the open window of a Victorian house like the one two doors down from me (you must come sometime and see).
