damn, I've got it
Nov. 30th, 2021 09:49 amGot the postive COVID result last night. Have actually been feeling better. But there's a notorious second-week tanking that's what usually gets to people and puts 'em in the hospital---starting around day 5 or 7. So I'm waiting to see what's going to happen. I think this is day 4.
My doc's office is trying to get me in for monoclonal antibodies. i certainly qualify, but there's a supply-and-demand issue hereabouts these days. That's cuz transmission is worse than ever here. Here it is, before any Thanksgiving bump, or Michigan--Ohio-State madness bump:
I'm still working today, trying to finish up the evaluation meetings. But my medical orders are to hydrate, rest, but also keep moving, and to take phone calls that look like spam in case they're the hospital, as it's up to the local hospitals who gets the treatment. Oh, and of course I'm staying away from everyone. As I'd pretty much *been* doing! I was in a grocery store two days before Thanksgiving, briefly, masked, although not everyone working there was masked, and of course who knows how many infected folks had passed through there recently. Seems it's quite unlikely I passed it to anyone at work, as I haven't been in the office in a good while. Also good that I've been doing chorus practice by Zoom.
The fact that I got both vaccinations plus a booster (a little over a month ago) is good. The antibodies help most if you get them fast, so it was good I went ahead and got tested when I did.
Apparently it's thought that the element of being fat that causes a problem for COVID patients is the way that fat cells store immune power---which is usually good, but turns bad when/if the body's immune system turns on the body itself, attacking (for instance) lung tissue. That's a big feature of the second-week tanking. Ironic that something fat does that's helpful for us is the culprit in this situation.
For now, back to work!

Date: Nov. 30th, 2021 02:56 pm (UTC)If you don't mind my asking, what kind of symptoms sent you to get tested? And what are you experiencing now? It seems to me that you take ALL the precautions, so your getting sick is disturbing and just seems so impossible on the surface.

Date: Nov. 30th, 2021 03:15 pm (UTC)It started out with swollen glands (neck) and fatigue, and then LOTS of sneezing and a very runny nose. I had a little bit of chills, too, at one point. Then there's a dull low-level headache. Never have coughed yet, to speak of, or had a fever. The sneezing and the chills have gone away.
It just seems to be a breakthrough thing. Probably Delta variant. Honesty the general public getting so cavalier, despite such bad numbers locally, seems like it must be a big part of it.

Date: Dec. 1st, 2021 11:48 pm (UTC)Of course I *may've* had an earlier start in that, on account I noticed swollen glands earlier than that, but not sure when. Hard to know what was the opening moment. Kinda like when you lost yer lesbian virginity, since there's no one act that marks having had sex.... :D
Anyhow, thanks for the good words.
