Those old-school electromechanical planetarium projectors were magical. They even had mechanical gears to point the planets. They ran on the principles of Ptolemy's geocentric cycles and epicycles, and if you set them up right, you could run them for centuries. I had the opportunity to use the one in Kalamazoo for a year or two, doing a couple of shows filling in for the regular planetarium guy.
