of the movies, 5 narrative features; 1 documentary; 1 comedy concert

Heh. That's about the proportion I've got going as well. Which documentary and comedy concert did you get to see? I've got that Margaret Cho one somewhere in my queue but haven't seen it yet...

comedy: Eddie Izzard, Dress to Kill
docu: Animation Legend Winsor McCay (1921)

I guess the latter isn't properly a documentary---more of a compilation. But his short stuff has a documentary feel, in that what he was often animating was his own drawing process.

I keep forgetting to queue up that Eddie Izzard show. Worth a look? I've been meaning to see that for a long time...

The latter sounds like something I'd like too. Love animation legends!

I got the Winsor McCay when my graphic novel pusher was in town. She'd introduced me to him in comic strip form long ago, but I hadn't known he'd been a pioneer of animation.

We awready tawked about this, but I love 6 FT UNDER. Recently I rejoined Netflix so as to watch the L Word in order rather than having to skip around when getting them at Blockbuster (besides, does Blockbuster have some conservative link?)...also, several small video stores I tried just plain didn't carry the L Word. Saw the episode where Helen Shaver (Color of Money, Desert Hearts, other stuff) plays the conservative activist, and was moved to watch Desert Hearts again...haven't seen it since probably early 90s. Ordered a DVD version from half.com.

I just heard that Blockbuster not only won't rent NC-17s and such but also that they rent censored versions of stuff. [livejournal.com profile] maffick borrowed the recent John Waters about the sexoholics (the title slips my mind just now) and it had beeps where "foul" language appeared. Ironic, of course, as she pointed out, because the action of the film is clearly (and intentionally!) more objectionable to such "sensitivities" . . .

I'm only up through the second disc of the L word, so I haven't seen the Desert Dykes woman. I picked up a copy of that movie offa eBay a while ago, though. I do have a fondness for it. It was a groundbreaker of sorts, even if the acting is a tad clunky here and there. And it uses pop music well.
