Those are both pics of Buzz Aldrin. Neil had the camera most of the time, but Buzz did the footprint experiment (to study soil mechanics, but it became a couple of favorite symbolic photos).

The second is a favorite of conspiracy theorists, because the light source isn't obvious. It's lit by the sunlit landscape. That means it's lit from below, as you can see from the dark top of the backpack.

Yeah, I know. I remember hearing something about whether Neil was peeved that Buzz didn't take the camera (and thus his picture) more. There are only so many choices of old postcards for me, of course. Here I put the quotation one first, even with a deceptively other footprint, and then put Buzz's descent next, since it was after the quotation.

That was sort of standard for Lunar Module kits. Except the ones that were parts of Saturn V kits.

Did they have any models of the big transport platform with the giant tread thingies?

A couple of them. I managed to get my hands on one years ago, and I have another version unbuilt.

Cool. Especially if the treads actually move.

They do not. At least one cheats with little wheels hidden in the treads.
