To quote a fellow rocketeer who has also heard this a few too many times, "anything that's longer than it is wide is phallic. Anything that's wider than it is long--well, you're just holding it sideways."
I do admit that some rockets are more phallic than others, but the one I'm holding isn't so much. And if you spend a lot of time in the rocket world, your standards for phallic get quite high.
