I'll always consider those diagonal parking spots uniquely American. They do have them in a few other places I have been, but it's much more common in the US. Being somewhat of a bad parker myself, I think they're a godsend. I don't know why anyone ever thought 90 degree parks were a good idea.

On a related note, I love these postcards that show more of the parking lot than the actual place.

Me too. It's akin to my love of postcards of the highway, or any other variation on the means or mechanics or trip-ness of the experience being noted & represented on that card back home or to whatever however-loved one, vs. of the destination or ostensible purpose of the whole biz.

One thing about the diagonals: there are a couple streets I've been to that have them but mandate that people back into them. Sure, that's nice later when you just scoot out, and I like to plan ahead and do the hard part first a lot, but it also seems kinda to defeat the ease and friendliness of 'em. Like you know how stop signs and lights are sometimes (perhaps again this is [capitalist] American) set up to favor those arriving to "shop" (spend money), vs. those trying to get outta the place after they've done their duty that way? Like they're trying to be inviting to draw in the spenders? Diagonal parking seems a little like that--- inviting. But not when it's back-in-only.

A backwards diagonal parking spot sounds like the worst of all worlds! Nightmare fodder!
