Postcard of the Day

That middle initial is a G, yes?  If so, what a cool way to make a G.

To me, it looks like "D. O. L." but I could be wrong. Side note, where do you find all of these beautiful postcards?

I dunno--- it's so different from the "O" earlier--- plus it has that little cross thing at the end. Like, imagine writing the letter and making the pen stroke. It totally ends in a G, with a sort of warm-up decorative circling around it. At least in my heart. :)

The postcards come from all over! I've bought large lots at auction in person, or "grabbag" sets of a handful in online auctions, or individual cards in person or online. Thrift stores, flea markets, antique stores, used book stores, a book fair, even yard sales. A few cards I've posted I scanned from a book of postcards from the library (like this one: ) , and some are images of cards I've come across but don't possess myself.

I'm intrigued by the way one person's name has been heavily crossed out and replaced with another's. The scrubbed out name looks like Alice. I wonder what was going on there.

"One more to enlarge your collection". Is the sender twitting the recipient with being a Don Juan? Is it a sly joke or an insult? Is the sender one of the women the recipient has scorned?

I wondered similar things myself! It does feel as if we might have a reference to more than one kind of collection.
