It seems the bubble cars at this place were boarded by a pond they then floated over.  Somewhere I found a picture of one of the cars in its abandoned and rusting state, but I can't find that again now, quickly.  But here are a few more views of the ride here:

I went to Aquarena Springs as a kid, but they didn't have those cars then.
