Ooh, very Mid-century Modern. I like it.

Yes!

I guess that if you have the water pressure to reach the sinks on the top floor, you must have the water pressure to get a fountain to spray that high.

On some gut level I've always thought water pressure in pipes depends in part of the constriction of said pipes, for its power. Not true?

I realize this morning I probably formed these ideas from playing with the outdoor water hose as a kid. You know, you put your finger over it, narrow the aperture, water squirts further.

Thumb over the hose increases the speed of the water for a given flow rate (rocket engines have a similar effect in the convergent sections of their nozzles, which I taught about last week). I would assume that the fountain nozzles have an effective thumb-over-the-hose effect to get the maximum effect out of whatever pressure they have.

Hey, I think that's Minneapolis!

You are correct!
