I wish I hadn't played.  I am philosophically opposed to the lottery, in multiple ways (that I could really go on about).  I don't know what got into me.

Still recovering from big eclipse trip.  There's so much I could write about it.  For now lemme just say I'm glad I went through with it.  And it really takes it out of me, driving and driving, days in a row.  It didn't used to.  Now it does.  I sort of remember that any more, but I also sort of forget.

Also on the list of Things to L(ive For or just L)ook Forward To:  the next total eclipse nearby.  Nearer by.

I'll put up a postcard later today, I hope.  Hey, y'all.  Y'few.  :)

I don't play anymore--I felt like if I won it would ruin my life.

Yeah, seems like there are many ways that ruinousness might well come about. Just what it would throw into interpersonal relationships is nuts to think about.

I can't even imagine wrapping my head around that much money. Her life is going to be hell now as every charity and worthy cause will be knocking at her door.

I'm glad you had a good time with the eclipse.

i'm not opposed to the lottery. but most of the time i cant justify playing. i've now bought about 5 tickets to the powerball. when i buy the ticket, its an agreement in my head to throw two dollars away. if i win, that'd be awesome. but i wont win. i just want the chance.

in our state, 25% of every dollar spent goes back to our state. (62% goes to the lottery prizes, 13% goes to costs of running the lottery). from our states lottery website: "A little over half of the money from ticket sales has gone into the General Fund to support services like K-12 education, health care, aid to local governments and public safety. The rest of the revenue helps the environment in many ways through the following funds: (1) the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, (2) the Natural Resources Fund, and (3) the Game and Fish Fund."

so i dont feel opposed to the lottery. just most of the time i dont pay it any attention. dont care to bother with it.

The way lottery proceeds have been conveniently tied to popular public services is actually one of the (several) reasons I object to it. Those things should be routinely funded by the regular flow of revenue from taxes, not tied to or contingent in any way on profits from public gambling operations. It's bullshit and a scam to make govt-sponsored gambling seem "good" that way.

my understanding is in our state, these things are funded anyway. the money from the lottery is extra. its not a have or have not situation.
