Last night I saw, for the first time, 1958's Indiscreet, with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. It was quite good, in some of those ways old movies can be good. And it reminded me of one of the life goals I'm not sure how to realize: see old movies at such a pace as to get all the good ones in before dying but leaving no more than a few months of life (where life is still of a quality in which movies can be taken in well) with none left to watch for the first time. If you follow.

It's a crap shoot, but many times when I burn another delicious one, I think of it.

I guess I could be o.k. with spending the last year or two with old films I'd seen before. I mean, repeat viewing can be grand. But the first time, with the good ones, is special.

I know they make good new movies now and then, but it's not the same thing.

Tonight I watched Three Kings instead of King George II. That was good, too, but I kinda wish I hadn't watched it so late in the day.

Glad you were able to avoid watching the bs from the sh. I didn't watch the speech even though I came home early from the store. I did watch the Democratic response, and I saw Barbara Boxer's comments too. I think I gleaned all I need to know about what was said by hearing the responses. Moveon.org is raising money for a new ad to counter W's tour to promote his destruction of Social Security, and I think I'm going to give them some as soon as I finish with lj for the night.

I didn't hear your message from last night until today, but I was on line too late to call anyway. Perhaps we'll talk tomorrow if you're around.

I think I'll have to give some spy funds to moveon, too. In addition to tsunami aid & the ACLU.

Glad you avoided the soto. We did, too. It was MST3K night anyway. We have our priorities.

And I don't think I've seen Indiscreet. Three Kings--is that the one with George Clooney in the Gulf War? I liked that one.

That's the one. It was pretty good. Somewhat unpredictable, visually distinctive/interesting, and actors I seem to enjoy looking at. Politically thoughtful and much more broad-minded about the Gulf War than most big-money cultural products, that's for sure.

Yeah, both R&I were surprised by how much we liked it.
