Oh yeah well then how come [blah de blah de blah]???

That's such a childish bit of diction.  Petulant schoolyard empted one-ups-manship.

People calling it "crude" also reminds me of childhood, though.  Kids in Kansas didn't use that term, but in sorta-rural Maryland among the elementary school throngs it was in common usage.  It didn't exactly mean "unrefined" or any of the senses like that, including "rude" or such.  It was derogatory, and harsh, but in a vague/blanket way.  Like suggesting someone was uncool or not okay, but amorphously.  Or maybe I just couldn't understand its subtleties?  There was some culture shock going on for me then, that's for sure.

I had a hard time just now deciding between Blaze Pizza (one of those custom-assembly cafeteria-line pizza places we suddenly have 2 of specifically, along with other chain variations) and Tuptim for later tonight, but I went with Tuptim.  It's cold in the office & makes me want soup.  Plus mangoes & sticky rice!  Mmmm.

I want a Thai iced tea right now, tho.  Afternoon pick-me-up.

I have a confession. I'm a native Marylander and I use that phrase quite a lot. I never noticed it being not use outside of Maryland, but now that you mention it...I haven't heard anyone use it in the UK and Sweden at least. I'm not sure if it's just a Maryland phrase, but yeah...it's used quite often. I actually use that on darling a lot...particularly when he's trying to imply he's always right about stuff.

For example:
Backstory: In 2006, we went on a road trip throughout Eastern Europe. We started things off in Germany, went through Poland, Hungary, Slovenkia, and ended up in Romania. In Poland, I think we just left visiting Auschwitz 1 and we were heading to Auschwitz Birkniff (or however you spell it). He missed the exit. I told him that. He didn't believe me and insisted we were heading in the right way. I twisted his arm until he finally turned around and low and behold, I was right. He had missed the exit.

Cut to years later when he makes this claim:
Him: "I'm always right."
Me: "Oh yeah? Well, how come you insisted you didn't miss the exit in Poland when you did?"
