I think it's the color scheme more than anything and the lack of comfortable furniture.

I think one problem with these pictures is that they often make me aware of the ceilings, and that makes me claustrophobic. This picture makes me feel like I'd have to lean over to walk in that upper section. I'm sure that in reality it would be just fine, and you could just enjoy the retro colors.

In this one maybe the thing for you to do would be to start out in the back, at the highest level, and then go down those steps to the shiny floor, already feeling like you have more headroom, and then step down to the pit-like area in the foreground, with the funny orange tile(?) stuff, and you'd really be like "Ahhhh.... This is more like it."

Oh but wait. That foreground area is on the same level, I think. It's a tad optical-illusiony.
