I've been thinking of it as a bar. A bar that either already was a dive or became one not long after the card was made. I'll see what it sez on the back of it sometime when I'm near the card again.

Wow, that doesn't look very cocktail loungy to me, but there it is in black and white.

I think it may actually be dark green and (aged) white, but yeah. ;)

It's a fascinating time-capsular photo, but I wonder why anyone would think to use it as a postcard at the time.

Drummin' up biz, I imagine. But all kindsa stuff used to get onto postcards. People sent a lot more postcards.

I get the motivation for printing them. I don't get the motivation for sending one. Unless the bar itself actually sent them out to customers or potential customers.

Oh, right. I dunno. I'da sent it! I'da been like, "Here I am, at the tawdry cocktail lounge, thinking of you yet again, tho it's been so long.... Sure do wish sometimes that I were more of a drinker. Hey, do you ever imagine you're going to use those dollar coins to tip a bartender, forgetting once again that you pay your tab with a card any more?" --- but I wouldn'ta written that last part cuz back then I didn't pay stuff with a card. Back then I wasn't even alive, or hadn't been for long. (No zip codes yet.)

Ah, the amusement of finding pre-zip-code stuff!

Yeah, I grew up in a non-drinking (yet non-religious) family, and by the time I got to the point of thinking of finding a safe place to give it a try, I'm not allowed for medical reasons.

So there's an entire language of alcohol consumption that is completely alien to me.
