Uh...er...um.

That darned turn-of-the-century humor.

Yeah, it's weird sometimes, ain't it?

Here's one I'm still pondering. I think I saw a reference somewhere else to the notion of buying someone else (one's love/spouse?) clothes, but I'm not sure. Of course maybe it's more a leap year thing.

Also why the guy's in the fireplace in this one, I dunno. And is the dog speaking the poem? Very confusing.

Well, there's that whole bit about girls being allowed to ask guys out on leap day. So that reference makes sense. I suppose that a guy buying a dame clothing is supposed to be emblematic of marriage. Maybe that trope about a guy going broke because of his wife's spending habits?

But the fireplace bit has me baffled.

Isn't there a thing about visions appearing in the fire?

I guess culture changes.

Clothes could just be for the rhyme. That's some pretty bad poeming, if so.

This is presuming that the proposing leap year girl isn't naked. You'd think we'd have heard, if that were part of the story.

One could hope, I suppose.
