Anybody up for Sideways? or Ocean's Twelve?

Not that I won't take myself. I find that I am a great movie date for myself. We have exactly the same taste in films, for one thing.

How 'bout Sideways?

Okay! Hey, it's that Nebraska guy, after all, right?

You wanna meet me for, uh, probably the later show tonight? Out at the Q16? (The State is the small-butt theater.) I'll buy the popcorn.

The Nebraska angle didn't even occur to me! Just the idea of a winetasting road trip sounded more appealing than a pretty boy fest. I wasn't that keen on Ocean's 11, to be honest. The later show sounds good. I'll leave right after we eat and meet you there, 'kay?

Hey, what the hell happened to yoU? You didn't miss much; Ocean's 11 was better. Oh, crap---were you over in Sideways??? [livejournal.com profile] homovegetarian didn't want to see that, and this was her only night off for the next approximately forever. . .

yukkity yuk

HH. Yeah, Sideways was great. You missed out, man.

Bummer Ocean's 12 sucked. I had a feeling. Hey, did you ever see the original O11? With Frank Sinatra? I saw it as a kid and loved it. Don't know how it would fly today.

I saw the old O11 not too long ago. It was entertaining, and irritating in the way I suspected it would be, for me: Sinatra bullshit. That rat pack crapola. There's no cool in their cool, to my thermometer. And I have zilch for respect for Angie D. cuzza her appreciation for their schtick.

Oh my god, we saw a movie (tv movie, perhaps?) a few years ago and Angie D had a cameo in it. She's had so much plastic surgery, she was like the woman in Brazil. Fucking frightening.

What? There's a Nebraska angle?

I rarely go to the movies by myself, but it feels really great when I do. I feel like I'm playing hooky from something, like I'm being devious and really free. I am not sure why, exactly.

It's the director---Alexander Payne. He's from Omaha. Writes his films, too, I think, or co-writes. He did Citizen Ruth and Election and About Schmidt. This one's supposed to quite good---well-written, observant about human nature, stuff like that. It's a guy bonding film, but they're, like, wine-tasting guys. Or guys on a wine-tasting tour, anyway.

I don't feel devious or particularly free when going to movies alone, but I feel indulged, in a way. Treated by myself. A little naughty for it, but not in a masturbatory kind of way. And long ago I found I sometimes can really enjoy the aesthetic experience by myself---esp. afterwards, walking out floating on a kind of cloud of post-movie high, enjoying strolling down the street or around the parking garage or across the lot or whatever. But deviously really free sounds good. Park the kid and go for it?

Hate to say it, but we ended up at the Q16, having missed your early show and not wanting to wait until the late one. It was crazy mobbed with teenage daters, though; next time, I reckon I'll advocate for the mall, even if it means a less favorable time. And so, too, will my fellow moviegoer, I imagine.

Ocean's 12 is pretty sucky, tho'. Sad to say.

Drag aboput the movie sucking. Funny thing you ending up at Q16. One of their employees was here seeing that very same film. He was like "Hi!!" He even grabbed my extra broom and started sweeping witrh me while we talked. Nice kid, but I can't remember his name. I felt like a tool.
