Booo.

Sorry if I startled you.

Were you told when you were a kid that being startled might make the hiccups go away?  We were.  I was, that is.  And so someone would yell "Boo!"  As I recall, it did not work.

I had heard it, but we mostly just had a drink of water and that helped with it. The scaring thing never seemed to work and there usually was water around to drink.

I only drink water and hold my breath at the same time. It always works.

Yes, I was. And yes, my parents would try to scare me. And no, it didn't usually work - although it did work just often enough to keep them trying. (They got tired of hearing me hiccup. I hiccupped a lot. They also recited just about every other putative hiccup cure at me and urged me to try all the others each time as well.)

I recall that every weird hiccup remedy I tried worked the first time I tried it, but never again.

Science needs a name for that phenomenon. Or does science have a name for that phenomenon?

I don't know so much about science as I like to make people believe.

I can see how it *might* work, but the surprise is never real when you have hiccups. Holding your breath works more often.

*fans you*

Oh yes, I was told that, and scared often, and it didn't work.

I heard that, but it never works. The only thing that it accomplishes imo is wetting yourself.
