Her nickname, Pazuzu, came from La démon de la Tour Eiffel, a graphic novel by Jacques Tardi.

           Pazuzu's Poets

"I thought the headline today was
`Poet union offers to return to
           work.' Too bad it wasn't."

Paula, i do like the idea of the poets' union
flexing its muscles, bringing society to a halt
by refusing to spin verse until conditions improve

there'd be scansion havoc & a gridlock of enjamb
ments & zeugma might even defect from syllepsis

next thing you know all onomatopoeia could
disappear below the surface of a sea of prosaicness

clunky thick theorists, hooked on the constant echo
   of their poststructuralist pontifications, would
wantonly cross the poets' delicate lines without
so much as a caesura of chagrin, wanking on
as usual of signifiers and the signified, ontology
and contextualism and semiotic ya-ya, their metaphors
all clogged up together in puffy somnolent sentences,
their souls indifferent to the rapid drying up of imagery,
the flat-lining of sprung rhythm, the death of deliberate
   idiosyncratic diction and joyful juxtaposition

i'm telling you, it would be ugly

we really ought just capitulate & give the poets
whatever they so eloquently may demand

great Paula tribute. big hugs to you, and all the other bloggers from MR who knew her. It's going to be very quiet down here. did you know
that she was the one who pointed out this typo to Pam!?

I didn't know that story! Always thought one of you had made up "Bob Serv" cuz he hangs with ya'll so often.

It's going to be pretty hard for you folks, isn't it.

I wish I'd kept some of her .plans. I never did. She wrote such wonderful .plans. I wish I could have something to post to show everyone how cool she was and how funny -- and how wry, I guess is the best word to use -- but I was stupid and didn't copy any. I wonder if any of the others did.

I meant to come back here and tell you----yes, "wry" is it, is good for it, for something about her style. I hope you'll include it in the memory book.

I need to check w/[livejournal.com profile] squirrelykat about that. You haven't heard anything of it these last couple days, have you?
