as the dog and i watched a rerun of the recently-defunct Joy Behar Show this morning, i contemplated calculating how long until the time change, spring forward, so's to start a countdown of weeks.

they're having coat sales at places that sell parkas.  it seems excessive to buy a new coat just cuz my pocket's ripped up and my zipper pull's detached.  yet it's really hard to zip up the coat, so sometimes i don't bother, and it's getting cold out there, while the dog crunches excitedly in the white-ish icesnow.  if i keep the coat, i ought have a tailor put a new zipper in.  or can they do just a new zipper pull piece?

such are the questions of our times.

I don't know about the pocket, but they can probably replace just the pull. Be Elegant is right on Industrial.

i just got back from Jo Ann's (on my dog break). gonna give it a go m'self. thanks, though.

also bought some thread--- my own thread purchase! i've been getting by with leftover thread from years ago. it keeps breaking. i tell myself i should go search the basement for maybe some other old thread that might not be as breaky, but today i splurged. did you know there's thread that changes color as it goes? like yarn does? i bet you did know that. i did not know that.

Variegated! It's the most awesome kind. :D Good luck with the zipper. I confess to an inadequacy in regards to the installation and repair of clothing hardware, but if you want a second opinion I can take a look.

appreciated! so far i've consulted youtube and other interwebly advice. and then it took me 5 minutes to decide among gray, white, brown, and black. i sorta wanted the blue, but they didn't have it in the right length, and i thought i oughta buy the right length just in case i end up needing to replace the whole zipper.

thanks, too, for "variegated". :)

my coat, btw, is only the second i've had as an adult. the first cost $25 on sale at the gap--- it was a thin white jacket with a hood. worked in the rain, and passed in the winter, with layers under. got my current parka with the move to kansas, where the winter seemed more intimidating than baltimore's.

i was looking at the pocket more. it's not too far gone. my ugly handstitching will perhaps confess its intentionality of transparency via festive thread colors. (or i'll use the green.)

hey, guess what! my zipper repair has been successful. i capped it off this morning by fashioning a zipper top stop out of parts of a paperclip.

it may be a little much to be so proud of myself for making do thus, but it's particularly gratifying to work something out on the cheap in an intimidating area like toilets and zippers. :)
