Postcard of the Day

Hey, it's All-Star day! Kinda snuck up on me. (Guess that means I've been totally neglecting my fantasy baseball teams.) So here's a postcard of

The Great Flood of 1965

flood postcard

"The Mississippi River at Davenport & Bettendorf, Iowa -- Rock Island, Moline, & East Moline, Illinois 'The Quint Cities' crested at 22.4 feet, the highest in history on April 28, 1965. The photo shows the muncipal stadium and the levee inundated with the skyline of Davenport, Iowa in the background." [strange punctuation & syntax sic]

Yeah, a pretty lowkey All Star day. We didn't listen to the game.

Cool postcard. "Now presenting the Quint Cities' new water polo park!"

I watched some of the beginning of the All-Stars. It was sweet when the much-touted Roger Clemens, whom I've never cared for, was rocked for six big ones in the 1st, starting with Ichiro's lead-off double and a follow-up RBI triple from none other than Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, whose bobblehead I shall possess in less than a month, provided I live that long. (It's the freebie at the game houseguests B&M are taking me to, bless their wunnerful hearts, in early August.)

I dunno if the writer of the p-card copy was from East Moline or something & trying to make a point, but don't you think of them as the "Quad" Cities?

Yeah, never heard the Quint Cities before. Poor East Moline--self esteem problem, perhaps?
