I'm shy about claiming that much courage, but I think maybe I do have more than I'd once thought.

"Courage" is a great word, you know. It really means heart. They come from the same root, and in Middle English, with that old-fashioned pronunciation, courage is a highly honored value---but it means something we don't really think of now, when we use it with its contemporary connotations. There's emotion involved. There's strength of heart, and willingness to care about others. It's part of the system of courtesy---another word with very specific roots in a practice of civility, back when there was a much clearer way of knowing the difference between brutish and civil behavior.

Back to the cocktail---and its instructions: I do tend to overindulge. . . .

You have plenty of courage, [livejournal.com profile] fflo. Especially the old definition of. Not sure if I have as much mercy as this recipe claims. What's the old definition of that?

Well, mercy mercy! Or should I say "mercy mercy mercy mercy mercy"?!

I do love the 1 part mysteriousness. Fitting!

Natch, you have tons o' empathy. And success seems appropos, as I think you can probably do just about anything you put your mind to, albeit not necessarily in an instant (but who can do that). Silliness? Maybe your enthusiasm for a particular piece of art or artist bubbling over into an almost giddy appreciation? I have seen that version of light-hearted glee in you more than once, happily enough.

(Confidential to [livejournal.com profile] upsidedownblue: hell if I know! No, seriously---some news will out soon-ish, perhaps by the end of the day. Stay tuned.)

(BTW, have you heard anything from [livejournal.com profile] vachementmoi since she got to town? I've been meaning to give her a call, once she's over the jet lag.)

I don't know about the ambition (I don't feel very ambitious these days!) but I sure hope I've got the mercy...

Other than that, yeah, I'm adding my two cents of what the heck?! ...

What I want to know is, how come I have so fewer parts that other people? Are they sayin' I'm simple?? hh

As far as the what the heck?, I don't really know what all was witnessed by who all today & would be curious to hear, should you feel like sharing. We're such a sensitive lot around here, in our easy-going way---it's good to know if there are any concerns that might need addressing.

I like the even parts intelligence and ego, but ambition's been kinda lacking lately.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2004-06-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
but there's a smidgen of it left, at least!

Hope is more roundly useful than ambition anyway.
