can't be that far...

Clear Lake, Iowa. And, what, there's only Indiana & Illinois in the way, right?

Willie Nelson plays there July 13th.

Anybody want to meet up for it? I probably shouldn't/can't, but it's nice to fantasize. So many times when Pollstar e-mails to tell me where he's playing, it's in the far South. I think he was in/near Cleveland last year.

I'm not much on a good part of the country music œuvre, but Willie's a good egg, doncha think? I bet he's fun in concert, too. Wanna see him before he dies, or I do. (Thus I want to see him before either of us dies.)

The place he's playing is the Surf Ballroom. Now I'm starting to salivate about it. (Metaphorically, that is.) (It'd be a little gross otherwise.)

Damn. It's already sold out.

Ah, sorry it went and sold out on ya. Would have been fun, I bet.

Hey, Clear Lake. Isn't that where Buddy Holly's (and Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper's) plane went down?

Yep. That last concert, on the "fateful" night, was at the Surf Ballroom, in fact.

They have a cheesy memorial/gravestone, and in the cafe you can see the phone Buddy & Ritchie used that night.

Really? That's so tacky! We must go sometime.

Yeah, that'd be cool. They do have a few coming this summer that you might want to see if they were in your own area and not too dear. And there's Riders in the Sky on 10/9.

Ooh, Riders in the Sky are much fun. At least they were when we saw them in Arcata ages ago. They were surprisingly lame at the end of Toy Story 2.

Tempting, I dare say.

"And it was ... a CIRCUS TRAIN!!!"

Willie ROCKS! I'd so go and see him with you some time, if want...when he's not sold out--BUMMER.
