Vitamin C Day

I was wondering in the shower this morning, using my new shampoo from Trader Joe's, why they put Vitamin C in it.  My gut reaction to the touting of such a thing is a combination of wonder at the novelty of ever-new means for our marketing bamboozlement and contempt for our gullibility---these on top of the underlying basic cynical skepticism I wish I didn't relate through so thoroughly in general but don't mind particularly much when it comes to my attitude toward advertising.

Now I see via Google doodle that it's the birthday of one Albert von Szent-Györgyi de Nagyrápolt, the discoverer (not nearly so long ago as I'd have guessed) of Vitamin C:

Happy birthday, Albert.  I bet you never washed your hair with Vitamin C.

I've been annoyed ever since they started putting protein in shampoo thirty-some years ago. As if dead hair had a digestive system.
