sub shops aplenty, and getting called "Hon"

Nobody in Ann Arbor calls strangers "Hon."

I didn't even notice it for several minutes. That was maybe the best part. I was already on a little high, having driven past the Friendly's and the Perkins'ses, just to see what might still be open in this little Pennsylvania berg. A "ville," actually, but "berg" is more PA-y. Just as I was thinking "Maybe a sub shop," I was next to one. Down the side street, another. Looping around onto almost-deserted Main, another, the one I went for. I was the only customer in there. I was "Hon."

I used to find the "hon" thing downright scary--sort of an invasive false intimacy. Now I can be mildly amused.

That's quite interesting. H and I ordered food last night and the delivery guy called me "Hon." Granted, he had delivered food to us before, but still...
