cold, colder, colder, with warm here and there

It's cold.

I got a letter today from my old friend and mentor. Teacher. Her doing "fairly well," she says, is probably not as good as my reported "fairly well" doing. I look up "atrial fibrillation" and try to imagine a constant threat of blacking out. The letter was typed but for the greeting and the sign-off part that I know there's a name for cuz it came up in some class years ago. The handwritten parts look like her, and I savor them. She is always strong, to me, and will never not be strong, no matter how frail.

Things taste like soap. Things smell intense. I declare it hormones.

This very freezing cold thing has a lot of my attention.

I went out on Monday night, of all things. Theaters and museums and even some restaurants are closed on Mondays. Seems like it's the least likely night for going out. And that seems like not much of a thing to say to reflect the evening. Guess I just want to note the night out, and to have had it. Voilà--- that's both.

This is my skin, and this is me in it. Strange; novel; natural; right; hmmm; okay.

Now it's time to get underneath the comforter for several hours.

Brrr...

How cold is it suppose to get there? It was suppose to get to -13 here last night. It was -9 when we went to bed at 11pm and -9 now at 9am. I don't know what it did in the in between.

I think -7 is the coldest I heard foretold. High today of 5, tomorrow of 3. Or so they were saying last I checked.

I wrapped up excessively this morning.

My first winter in Michigan was a mild one, like a gentle introduction. Like when they put the numbers for the fingering in the elementary piano books. It's easier, but it's not a favor for the long term. Sounds like O-ha's not providing this baby-step inculcation for you two.

I don't know if it's good to be thrown straight into the pool. The cold, frigid pool. Just saw that we got down to -15 last night. That was the lowest temperature recorded in 13 years and hopefully for another 13.

Seems to me it got every bit as cold in Manhattan as it does up here, and it got much hotter, and hot for longer. In the winter we have a whole lot more snow, but I like that part. And we're on the not-snow-effect side---the big dumps from air coming over the lakes don't land hereabouts.
