Film Fest starts tomorrow night

It's that time of year again. If you're in/near A2 & interested, here're some clicks to click:

Opening Night (Tuesday)
Queer Night (Thursday) -- Now With More Lezbos!

Feature features:
  • Cat Dancers (Thursday) -- "Before Siegfried and Roy, there were Ron and Joy Holiday... and the dashing young Chuck Lizza joined the pair...."
  • NERAKHOON (The Betrayal) (Saturday) -- memoir, filmed over 23 years, of Laotian immigrant to the U.S. Thavisouk Phrasavath
  • Strange Culture (Saturday) -- the FBI & Steve Kurtz
  • I Pity the Fool (Sunday) -- Detroit demolishing itself to prepare for the Super Bowl

  • animator Bill Plympton, with screenings (Friday)
  • Larry Flynt & screening of documentary about him (Saturday)

There'll also be a repeat showing of last year's weird hit Brand Upon the Brain! (Sunday) and midnight screenings at the State of the Tom Waits concert movie Big Time (1988) (Thursday) and Aki Kaurismaki's Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1989) (Friday).

that's tomorrow. might go. gotta check the couch cushions. i think i'm hitting the bill plympton animation talk today.

queer night wasn't so good, unfortunately. the films, that is. two or three good ones, a coupla real stinkers, and some that were okay but not really queer. and i mean with a broad definition of queer.

however, [livejournal.com profile] bigfinedaddy and i did play with the make-your-own-animation setup in the lobby instead of paying more to get in to cat dancer at the late show, and then we went drinking in the snowstorm. so queer night was good. just not the movies.
