afternoon at the office

the glasses guy called--- there's a delay, as the first lenses they made didn't pass some test involving a steel ball being dropped on them. (?) i was just noticing how far down my nose i'm pushing these lenses now, even for regular galley font size on the desk in front of me. it is SO time. but not quite/yet time. so what else is new! and tell me about it.

it's been a day of lines. a bunch from songs, oh yes & oh my, plus "what does it say about you, the urge to undermine?", and who knows what others. well, many from routine-ish nonroutine typings, too, no doubt. i just remember that one i quoted there (perhaps not fully accurately) cuz i typed it out shortly afterwards.

got btk's mariachi record in the hopper right now, and a cuppa the strong stuff. feels like a good day.

helluva hug w/the freshly-defended B, after running into her & F at TJ's yesterday. she seems quite different, having passed that milestone, and then (reportedly) sleeping a lot.

back to't.

i have to get new glasses too-- just got he Rx a few days ago. Was told I don't need bifocals "yet." but that the usual age for people to need them is 45, except people who do a lot of 'close work' may need them earlier. dr also told me that for people who do an INSANE amount of close work on computer or paper, you can also get a second pair of glasses that don't have as much power to see far--that way your eye muscles don't work as hard when you're wearing them mostly to do, well, close work. and tht the federal govt might pay part of the costs for me to get them if i need them. i think this would be something for me to consider if i find that the new glasses, once i get them, are tough on my eye muscles. my eyes are pretty bad. they did a special test-- if your nearsightedness is above a certain threshold, it stretches some stuff in your eye correspondingly more and you're more liable to get retinal tears/detached retina. anyway-- i shoudl write this in my journal, 'cause i actually grilled the dr, and found out a lot of general eye info-- it was interesting. how bad are your eyes?

never heard of the steel ball test (hmmmmm), but you bet i'll ask dr ladas next time i see him.
if you're pushing your glasses down your nose, that's like ...what do you call them? when someone just needs glasses for reading close stuff. i still think those are sexy.

congrats to b -- is she on lj?

I'm one of those lucky ones who had to get them earlier. I need new ones, however--like [livejournal.com profile] fflo, I'm pushing my glasses down my nose to proofread. And I'm keeping a maginfying glass in my bag now, just in case I need to read a menu with small type or something like that. I'm thinking about gettig clip-on magnifiers. (Brian saw these in a catalog & said that they look kinda like my clip-on shades.)
