the astronaut arrest story

title or descrip What's, to me, extra weird about the story of the arrest of the astronaut who has the hots for the other astronaut & was apparently resorting to crazy behaviour is the way reports are mentioning that she wore adult diapers during the 900+-mile drive from Houston to Orlando to confront her rival, and then noting that astronauts wear diapers during launches and re-entries. As if that pretty much explains that. I mean, that's a helluva long drive, and you can't do it on one tank of gas unless you're driving something pretty unusual. So you're going to be stopping for a few, anyway. Not to mention, it just ain't a dash, no matter how infrequently you "drop trou" (<--one of Holly's favorite expressions) to pee.

Hmm... it seems that filker [livejournal.com profile] hawklady has already immortalized the event in song...

That's a hell of an obsession. Must have been pretty gross by the time she got there.

diapers

i loved that reference to when else astronauts would wear diapers. clearly that had to be mentioned, although it was completely irrelevant to everything, except that it was an utterly austronautical story, so this might be one more bit in the mysterious and fascinating saga of astro-love and astro-reason.

did you read the thing today in the nytimes? there's something about how this much preparation is very unusual. apparently, to prepare this elaborately is a "guy thing" (says a professor of psychiatry from---drumroll---columbia university!)

I'll check it out. My boss was implying something along those lines earlier, talking of how, were the offender a guy, we wouldn't all be giggling so much---and maybe that's why: we know that story too well.

yes, this was supposed to be 'unheard of' in the annales of women's crimes, although i don't think it's that rare. it's just that's it's never the creme of the crop like this, and *astronaut of all people (meaning, i guess, that they're supposed to be relatively sane and stable).

imagine the poor husband and kids of this lady. can't be fun at all.

it probably does, but she's also the one who came up with the idea of stalking this woman and driving 900 miles to maze her and maybe something else. she is of our gender, and it might be unusual for women to do it, but i can't say it's making it look much better.
