Okay. It's a new year. Here we are. I have no time off work planned. Doing some stuff around the house---maybe that's the thing to focus on.

There should be snow on the ground by now. It's practically the dead of winter. Maybe it all got used up in the Plains.

The touch of the blahs I have may be related to fighting off this pesky almost-cold for practically a week now. But I'm sure there's more to it than that.

Probably. There is that "post-holiday blues" thing, you know. And you're right in that you need to find the next new/fun/exciting thing to look forward to. And of course, throw in the almost-cold, and you've got yerself a case of the blahs.

If you barely had holidays, or could be said to have had a bit of holiday blues, shouldn't you be immune to, or exempt from, post-holiday blues?

Stitchy is such a cute nut.

Oh, I don't know. I had pre-holiday stress/blues, holiday illness/blues, and now I have post-holiday it's-the-new-year--what-the-hell-am-I-doing-with-my-life-and-why-do-I-come-to-this-office-every-day?/blues. And my mouth hurts.

i wish brain were programmed to synchronize its cycles with the official calendar. i'd be much happier then. in anticipation of this major evolutionary advance, i am using semesters and such to give myself structure (a major anti-depressant, i found out from experience).

that should have been "the brain," methinks.

but isn't it pitiful that imposed structure is necessary to distract one from misery? that, thus, misery is the natural, 'at rest' state?

i know life has no meaning, and i try to accept that. what i want is to find myself feeling this: that it doesn't matter that it doesn't matter.

it's pitiful in the same way that having to eat and bathe is pitiful: it's repetitive and boring and unavoidable. that's why capitalism likes to tell you that it isn't, so you'll always buy more things that make it look like you didn't do the same repetitive thing again. but you did.

life does have meaning. the meaning of it is to keep busy thinking about it and showing yourself what wild things you can do that you didn't know yesterday you could do today. and maybe you couldn't do them yesterday, but now you can.

the "world" (of people) won't tell you that you got it. it is meaningless while waiting for everything to clear up, waiting to hear that one has bought everything that could be bought, that one has done everything there was to do. if you've figured it all out, you're probably dead.

busy people are happy, and i don't mean those who work all the time. busy in the head, and unafraid to be busy in the head. unafraid in general: to say they are weak and sad and lonely, because they know everyone is.

it's good that it doesn't matter. it will never get resolved anyway, and the sooner we stop expecting it to be resolved, the better. it never has been, for anyone. whoever claims it was, is a shameless liar, and we know it. that's why we don't have many friends. but the few we have are pure gold.
