follow-up

You guys had some great suggestions for my supper-throwin'-together last night. Too bad I didn't look in on my e-mail before braving the task! I ended up thawing some old chicken-corn-bean-mole-onion-tomato-etc. burrito filling I'd forgotten I had in the freezer & rolling it up in a coupla the tortillas I also forgot I had. With steamed broccoli from the bit of that I had that was about to go, even though I have lots of cauliflower still to eat. (It's not about to go.) ("About to go" is a funny expression, isn't it. Is that something my family used and others' didn't? So hard to know sometimes.)

I usually see it with something after the verb "to go"...like...about to go bad, about to turn rancid....I think I've heard more usage of "about to turn" rather than "about to go", though.

I think it was a VT friend's mother who would say "gone by," as in {wrinkles nose] "those flowers have gone by."
