The thing that's so cool about this community is how most of the entries were so positive. They know they have a great team, and there will be next year. The Cubs were fantastic this year, and not making it to the Series isn't going to take that away from them.

I was pretty impressed with that aspect of their talk, too. And they really do say "wait 'til next year"!

what i think is interesting is how they refer to 'we' as if 'they' were out there playing the game. yes, you may argue that the fans are very important to the game. i agree. i am a fan myself. but i have no illusions that i am, by sitting here on my ass in france reading about what's happening, doing anything to help them win or causing them to lose. and i daresay that even if i was watching them play every game on my ass in front of the television in america, and buying into all the advertising that gets done, i STILL wouldn't purport to have any effect on their performance.

i might even go so far as to say that this 'we' business is part of problem with all the superstitious hoopla surrounding the cubs and their inability to win the world series. because all these people think that they, by not shaving, or not showering, or wearing a certain shirt, are giving those cubs the luck they need to win this year.

if there are otherwordly forces at work in the baseball universe, the cubs WOULD have won this year, because my grandma has been up there coaching them, and, having had seventy years of experience in coaching them from her recliner in the living room, she's probably the most capable coach they've ever had. and they still couldn't do it. it may be because she assumed her position too late in the season. there's always next year!!!!!
