I expect to be playing around with my Ukulele tonight, and I'm off to a rocket contest at the Michigan Farmer's Hall of Fame tomorrow and Sunday.

cool.

is your uke like steve martin's banjo? can't be sad when you're playing it?

[identity profile] peteralway.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the theory, though you can play sad songs, but then you're only sad because of the song. But you can't be sad playing "Freddy the Freshman" on the Ukulele.

And it's bright yellow!

You're always doing such fun-sounding stuff!

I'm glad that I at least sound like I'm having more fun!

I should mention, since you don't ready my LJ, that I bought the Ukulele yesterday, and have been spending the last 24 hours trying to learn to play it. They say it plays just like a guitar missing two strings, but I can't play a guitar, and it plays nothing like a dulcimer.

... and as a guitar player, I can't imagine that being *easy*. I mean... what do you do without those two? ;^)

I just want to know where guitar players get the extra fingers to fret those two extra strings.

Well, sometimes you wrap your thumb around the top. And sometimes, you're just creative. ;^) But lots of time you want one of those strings open, right?

ah, i've sussed it out: using the nose on the fret! now i have deeper understanding of that emoticon technique of yours i like. :+]

As I believe I mentioned, tonight I'm supposed to be going out to dinner with some women who are starting to become my friends, I think. But I have this abdominal pain thing going on, so I don't know. Tomorrow, the schedule promises errands, housecleaning, and maybe yard work (should that be one word?). And I'm taking two articles home so that I can get the Oct 3 issue PAP stuff reviewed by Monday. Good times.

hmmm.... looking for the fun part of that weekend, presuming you missed the dinner part... yard work can be fun? would it be the fun kind? i dunno--- maybe the errands are fun ones? perhaps housecleaning is sorta fun for you, at least when you finished? i don't think you'll convince me that taking work home is fun. but please tell me you'll fit some fun in somewhere, womon.

hey, i was walking by that picture of j as a bear(?) at halloween this morning & thought of making a halloween card out of it. do i need your permission, his, or both? how many would you want me to send you to send out yourselves, if any? i got a little halloween thingie for the boy yesterday (don't tell him, unless he's reading over your shoulder now, in which case hey j i gotcha somethin', don't tell your mom) (ha ha)

Sounds like a fine, somewhat casual weekend in the city. Enjoy!
