Hey, don't forget the inaugural radio show of [livejournal.com profile] pijeanf, coming up tonight at 7:00 on (or is it "at"?) http://wcfm.williams.edu.

I would think it would be 'at' myself. Thanks for the plug. : )

Well I'm trying to test the signal here at work now---there's a show scheduled to be on from noon to one, but I'm getting silence. Think they just didn't show up? I'm leaning toward staying late and listening from here, as the stream at home kept getting interrupted for re-buffering.

djco2 didn't show up today. I went over at lunch to see what I would need to bring from home, and the studio was dark. Guess I'm bringing everything from home, just in case (except for the new stuff, of course). So, the silence you heard was our fault, not yours. I am so getting on the board next semester, so I can have my own key!

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2003-10-07 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess I'll just cross my fingees that it'll work from here, and if not I'll zip home and catch the (choppy) second half of the show.

Hey, speaking of Johnny Fever, I thought I was Johnny! Johnny UREZ, anyway. (I think he took his name from Fever, at least to some extent.)

Well, you're the only Johnny in my life, but I was a big WKRP fan, too. Seemed apropos for today, huh? What other dj is there with a cool photo (and no one from "FM" counts)?

I Googled to confirm, but my first guess was right. Alan Freed. Yeah!

Whaddaya think?

Gee, they're both good. Fever is probably more like you as a person, but Freed's musical tastes certainly resembled yours, in one big way at least. This picture might have a better resolution tiny. Maybe depending on mood?

Wait a Minute,

Alan Freed was very rock and roll, definitely some of my tastes, but were you maybe thinking of this fellow?

He'd be good, too.

I surely was.

Freed was the guy who supposedly coined "rock and roll"?

Yes, he was. As a whiter alternative to rhythm and blues. Goddess, the 50s were wierd. : p

Patti the E? It doesn't have the same ring as "PiJ" on the PiJean show. (I have mentioned to you how Holly thought for the longest time that PiJean was pronounced Pie-Jean?)

Yeah, I think I'll stick with PiJ, although I did adopt PiJean F. on UREZ after getting into the jazz guy on KHSU who went by Scottie G.

Yep, you've told me about Holly's mispronunciation. Silly girl. Remembering that, though, made me include "sounds like pigeon" in my first email to Jason.

I wonder if Pigeon Feathers is still in existence.

Huh? I'm assuming you don't mean me.

I mean the old record stores by that name!

I have never heard of Pigeon Feathers record stores! : 0 Or if I had, my memory has been cleansed of the knowledge. I didn't even know there was a John Updike story of that name (and movie, to boot) until I just Googled it.

Fill me in. Where was Pigeon Feathers?

Re: Confuse-a-PiJ

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As I remember it, Pigeon Feathers was (at least) a DC-area chain, never caught on as much as whatever the hell that other local one was---you know, that had one in College Park and all. (Kemp Mill Records, the other one.) They may have already been on their way out or only still in, say, Bethesda and No. Va. when you moved west of the Bay. I don't know if they took their name from the Updike story (also the name of the collection, as I recall). Didn't know there was a movie.

I think "A & P" is in that collection. I still love that story.

I love how this conversation is skootching ever closer to the left margin and getting skinnier. I don't remember Pigeon Feathers, unfortunately. I do remember Kemp Mill, and I remember us shopping at the Peaches up on Liberty Rd, among others. My fave MD record store, though, was the Annapolis Record Exchange.

The movie appears to have come out in 1988 and stars Christopher Collet and Caroline McWilliams. Don't know anything about them, either.

I do miss that Annapolis Record Exchange now and then. Even its cousin in Bowie. Hey, there are still record stores up here, though they lose 'em all the time. Good used CD shopping, too, from what I hear (we haven't much been in the market during the saving-for-a-house time). Too bad you can't come up later this month; there's a record show.

There's a hole-in-the-wall independent cd store here in Williamstown with the delightful name of Toonerville Trolley. No vinyl, but it has a good selection of used cds.

A record show! Wish I could make it. Bummer!
