grill the filmmaker

Think anyone will prod Lawrence Kasden to address the old "rip off of Secaucus 7" controversy in his talk tonight after the free screening of The Big Chill? Shall I go find out?

I suppose by now it's been roundly addressed by all the players in DVD commentary tracks. Somebody really oughta publish commentary-track-divulged content, you know? If there is such a round-up online, I sure don't know about it.

sadly unfamiliar with the controversy...

It was "The Big Chill is just a Hollywood sell-out yuppie-r remake of The Return of the Secaucus 7, a coolly independent movie." With the implication that by knowing about the latter, one knew more/best. And who knows. Both movies do presume the Importance of baby boomers, which is rather a sticking point for me, and tell similar reunion stories of disillusionment, or something like that.

just knew more and better about all things cinematic, by virtue of knowing independent films, and thus being 'in the know' in general... i'm poking fun at folks i have been one of.
